A business start-up event designed to help North Lanarkshire women explore childminding as a self-employment option will take place next month.
This FREE event will take place at The HIVE women’s business incubator in Airdrie on Wednesday 4 September from 6.30pm to 8.00pm.
It is one of a series taking place this year to help local women identify different vocational pathways into self-employment. It follows a successful beauty and wellbeing event held in June.
Attendees at the childminding event will hear from speakers including:
- North Lanarkshire Council Early Learning and Childcare team
- The Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA)
- a local childminder who will share her ‘day in the life’ experience
- a Business Start-Up Adviser from Business Gateway Lanarkshire, and
- a member of North Lanarkshire Council’s Business Start-Up Funding team.
The evening will provide a valuable insight to the childminding landscape in North Lanarkshire, and guide attendees on what’s involved in becoming a registered childminder.
Women attending will find out how to register to accept funded childcare places and different service offers that childminders can provide ie., pre-school, daytime and afterschool. The event also provides an opportunity to find out about future changes to Scottish Government childcare provision and support.
Childminding can appeal to women looking for a way to balance family commitments with income generation,” said Councillor Alex McVey, Convener of the Enterprise and Fair Work Committee.
“It can also be a next step for career changers who may be looking to move to a more flexible, self-employment option. Whatever the motivation, this event is a great way to access insight, information and key organisations to guide and advise you.”
The HIVE is supported by funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Scottish Government Pathways Pre-Start Fund.
