Employees of seafood producer and processor Dawnfresh in Uddingston who lost their jobs when the company closed this week are being offered support by the council.

Two events are being held on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 March at Hamilton Town Hall to offer advice and practical support to look for a new job as well as available benefits and managing money.

Local employers who are looking to recruit staff will attend the events, along with the council’s Financial Inclusion team and employability service, Routes to Work, the Department of Work and Pensions and Business Gateway Lanarkshire.

In addition, an Introduction to Redundancy Support webinar was held on Wednesday 2 March for employees.

The council is working with South Lanarkshire Council and Skills Development Scotland through the PACE programme, which offers redundancy support for people and businesses in Scotland.

“This is devastating news for the 200 employees at Dawnfresh’s premises in Uddingston, and the council will do everything possible to provide the help they need,” said Council Leader Councillor Jim Logue.

“With Skills Development Scotland, we have moved quickly to set up the two events next week where we’ll have advice and information available on available jobs in the area, training opportunities and money advice.

“A number of local employers with vacancies have also been invited and we hope to find new jobs for some of those who have been made redundant.”
