By-election result in Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig council ward

Labour and Co-operative Party candidate Kaye Harmon has been elected to serve as an elected member in Ward 19 Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig of North Lanarkshire Council, following a by-election on Thursday 16 November.  

The number of first preference votes polled for each candidate was: 

  • Billy Acheson, British Unionists – For a Better Britain - 96
  • Oyebola Ajala, Scottish Conservative and Unionist - 296
  • Kaye Harmon, Labour and Co-operative Party – 1,368
  • Robert Stewart McGeorge, Scottish Liberal Democrats - 68
  • Mark Shields, Alba Party - 66
  • Derek Watson, Scottish Green Party - 255
  • Neil Wilson, UK Independence Party - 24
  • Rosa Zambonini, Scottish National Party (SNP) - 934

Total of first preference votes: 3,107

The percentage poll was 20.0% and the electoral quota was 1,554.

48 ballot papers were rejected.

Des Murray, Returning Officer, said: “I would like to congratulate Kaye Harmon on her election, and I look forward to seeing her at the next council meeting.”
