Through the first round of the Digital Connectivity Challenge Fund, we have supported six organisations to improve connectivity in their local community facilities.
Supported by funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, community groups can apply for up to £5,000 to enhance access to digital services or Wi-Fi connections in their facilities.
One of the successful organisations from the first round was Newmains Community Trust. The Trust offers family, digital, and social support through a range of weekly groups and serves as a base for various community activities such as arts, sports, and youth groups.
The building had several areas that lacked appropriate levels of Wi-Fi for a consistent connection.
They were awarded a grant of £4,190 to cover the costs of installing wireless access points, associated cabling, and upgrading existing routers.
The Trust commented, “We were delighted to be awarded funding to improve the digital infrastructure within the centre. The difference to our Wi-Fi connectivity has been amazing!
“We are grateful for the funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which has allowed us to offer better service to our customers, third-sector partners, and local businesses operating from within the building.”
If you are working with a local community organisation that could benefit from this funding, the second round will open at the start of June.
