A public parade involving an estimated 8,000 participants will take place in Airdrie on 6 July. As a result, there will be a number of road closures and parking restrictions in place, managed by Police Scotland.
Parade route
A public meeting will be held in Central Park from 11.45am to 12.45pm. The parade will then start at 1.00pm.
It will follow a route taking in: Bore Road, Aitken Street, Chapel Street, East High Street, High Street, Aitchison Street, Queen Victoria Street, Alexander Street, Stirling Street, Bank Street, Hallcraig Street, Baillies Lane, Graham Street, Clark Street and Motherwell Street.
A section of the parade will turn left into Springwells Avenue, Drumbathie Road, Bore Road and back to Central Park. The rest of the parade will continue on Clark Street and Motherwell Street to the parked buses on Braidenhill Road and Findhorn Place.
Roads along the route will be closed while the parade passes through, managed by Police Scotland.
It is anticipated the parade will take around two to three hours and the same time to pass any given point on the route. Therefore, residents and businesses are advised that access from junctions and driveways on to the route will not be possible for that time.
Road closures
From 00:01am to 6:00pm, the B8058 Braidenhill Road and Findhorn Place will both be closed.
A diversion will be in place for vehicles using Braidenhill Road: vehicles travelling west to east should use the A73 Motherwell Street, Airdriehill Street, Burnhead Road and Braidenhill Road.
There will be no diversion route for Findhorn Place.
To assist with buses dropping off participants, the B8053 Bore Road will be closed from 00:01am until approximately 2.00pm to allow the parade to leave Central Park and Bore Road. Access for residents within the closure will be managed by dedicated traffic management staff during this period.
Parking and loading restrictions
From 00:01am until the parade leaves Central Park there will be no waiting or loading on the west side of the B8053 Bore Road, between Drumbathie Road and Kirkness Street.
Bus parking
It is expected that up to 90 buses will bring participants to the event, stopping on Bore Road to let participants out, then parking on Braidenhill Road and Findhorn Place for the duration of the parade.
The majority of buses will arrive in Airdrie from junction 6 of the M8 via the A73, Bellside Road, Chapelhall Main Street, Carlisle Road, the terminus roundabout, Motherwell Street, Drumbathie Road and Bore Road.
A smaller number of buses will arrive from junction 5 of the M80, then travel south on the A73 on to Stirling Road, Motherwell Street, Drumbathie Road and Bore Road.
These roads will be very busy and there will be delays as a result. Drivers are advised to allow significant additional time for journeys in this area and consider alternative routes during the time parade is taking place.
