The community around Aitkenhead Primary School in Uddingston is being assured that work is taking place over the holidays to minimise the impact of a fire which destroyed outdoor play equipment.
“Council staff are working hard to ensure that the damage in the playground is cleaned up over the holidays, so that there will be minimum impact on pupils,” explained Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, Children and Families.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved in the clean up for turning this around so quickly and for their professionalism.”
Police are investigating the incident which took place at the weekend of 12 and 13 October where a much-loved outdoor resource facility was set alight and destroyed
“This senseless attack on a much-loved school facility resource is completely unacceptable,” said Councillor Helen Loughran, Convener of the Environment committee.
“It takes up so much of the emergency services’ time and resources. However, I’d like to assure pupils, parents, carers and staff at the school that we are doing all we can to ensure that children don’t lose out.
“We’d strongly appeal for anyone with information to contact the police.”
