A state-of-the-art pharmaceutical stability storage facility has opened at MediCity, North Lanarkshire – the first of its kind in Scotland. (From November 2018)

The facility, operated by Roylance Stability Storage Limited, includes new state-of-the-art, large temperature and humidity controlled walk-in chambers to store products including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, vaccines and medical devices.

The council has supported the company’s move to MediCity with £3,000 of funding to develop their web site and digital marketing.

MediCity Scotland is part of the BioCity Group which operates biosciences incubators, providing specialised bioscience laboratory and office accommodation as well as support to help companies get started and grow.

Funded by North Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Enterprise as part of the Glasgow City Region Deal, the facility at Newhouse is home to a range of companies from university spin-outs and entrepreneurial start-ups to established UK firms and international subsidiaries. Since January 2017, these companies have raised £9 million of private investment to date.

“The support we have received from North Lanarkshire Council has been fantastic,” said Marieanne Miller, Operations Director at Roylance Stability Storage Limited.

“The funding we received has allowed us to create a new website, offer our clients new methods of paying accounts and create some marketing material. This has been a real boost to our business growth, enabling Roylance Storage to promote our state-of-the-art pharmaceutical storage facility to the wider industry and we are already reaping the benefits. The process for funding was quick, efficient and friendly.”

The new facility has created four jobs, with another two posts to be created in the next year. State-of-the-art systems allow the company to provide customers with detailed monitoring data in real time about the products they have in storage, replicating the environmental conditions from across the globe, including high relative humidity and temperature combinations.

Councillor Allan Graham, Convener of the council’s Enterprise and Housing Committee, said: “North Lanarkshire’s strong tradition of heavy industries like coal and steel have all but gone, replaced with modern, high-tech industries like life sciences.

“Roylance Storage is a great example of a cutting edge, life science business operating in a fast moving and dynamic industry. It is testament to the superb facilities available at MediCity that attracted Roylance Storage to open this unique, world leading facility right here in North Lanarkshire.

“We are confident that North Lanarkshire will continue to attract more life science businesses and high quality jobs.”
