Pupils and staff at Clydeview Primary School, Motherwell have welcomed the opening of their new school at a special event on Friday 10 February.
The new facilities in the former Daisy Park Centre are a key part of North Lanarkshire Council’s drive to improve the Additional Support Needs sector and provide enhanced teaching environments for pupils in fit-for-purpose surroundings.
Councillor Angela Campbell, Convener of Education, Families and Children, said: “This development at Clydeview school is an important part of our overall ambition to drive up standards within our Additional Support Needs schools and nurseries.
“The redevelopment of the Daisy Park Centre is a great example of our ambition. It provides the space and facilities to accommodate Clydeview Primary pupils but also brings together pupils from Firpark and Cathedral schools within a joint campus.
“I am delighted to be here today to mark this special occasion.”
In late 2020, the council’s ASN Review Group agreed to a fundamental overhaul of the sector with a clear goal of improving the quality of education and future life opportunities of young people with additional support needs.
Among the recommendations was that Clydeview school be relocated to facilities adjacent to Firpark School.
Marie Clare Webster, Head Teacher of Clydeview School, said: “Our new home provides us with first-class teaching areas, and it will make such a positive impact on the entire school community - the reaction of staff and pupils has been so enthusiastic and positive.”
The ASN review aims to ensure pupils are educated in higher quality facilities, to increase collaboration between schools and services, to provide an improved leadership structure and to strengthen career opportunities for all staff working in the sector.
