Chryston High School’s Wind Band won a Gold Award at the Scottish Concert Band Festival Final—an impressive achievement in their first time competing.
Head Teacher Gregg Orrock praised the pupils' hard work and dedication: "We are incredibly proud of our young musicians. Their commitment, talent, and ambition were recognised nationally, a fantastic achievement.
"This success results from hours of practice, supported by our dedicated performing arts staff and instrumental instructors, who play a key role in our music programme."
The band, made up of woodwind, brass, and percussion players from S2 to S6, performed alongside groups from across Scotland. They also had the chance to hear other talented bands in different categories.
Fiona Lyon, Principal Teacher of Performing Arts, expressed her pride in the pupils: "This was the first time Chryston High School Wind Band had taken part in the festival, so reaching the final and winning Gold was an incredible achievement.
"They were fantastic ambassadors for our school, and we’re excited to compete again next year."
The band is supported by the council’s Instrumental Music Service and will continue working towards future performances.
Also at the same event, the Dalziel High School Concert Band achieved a Silver Plus award.
The Scottish Concert Band Festival Final took place at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday, 15 March.
