A festive fundraiser by local councillors has raised nearly £700 to help the vital work of the Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust.

Organised by Provost Kenneth Duffy, elected members donned their Christmas Jumpers and festive ties, and donated funds to help the independent charity which provides volunteer drivers to take cancer patients to hospital appointments, clinics and day-care facilities.

Provost Duffy said: “This is a charity which provides incredible care and support for local people and one that is close to my heart. The drivers and volunteers are real local heroes, and I’d like to say a massive thank-you to my fellow councillors for their kind and generous donations to a brilliant cause.”

The Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust provides a driver service (cars and drivers) for cancer patients who do not have transport of their own and/or who find it difficult to cope with prolonged ambulance transport. If you live within the NHS Lanarkshire area, you contact them by calling 01698 355137.
