Locals gathered to celebrate the opening of a fantastic new play area in Attercliffe Ave.

More than 50 people attended the opening along with local councillors Bob Burgess, Fiona Fotheringham and Jim Hume.

The council’s Community Partnership Team developed the creation of the play area in consultation with the local community.

At its centre is a magnificent castle-themed junior climbing unit, there is also a toddler climbing unit, an accessible roundabout and trampoline, and a large set of varying swings including a basket swing and a cableway, which is proving popular.

New picnic benches are in place to create a seating area for families to enjoy the park.

Funding of £50,000 for the new facility came from the Local Development Programme managed by the Community Partnership Team, while additional funding came from the Scottish Government.

Watch out for the announcement of the winner of the ‘Design a Sign’ competition for the play park which is underway with pupils from Netherton Primary School.

The winning design will be made into a sign and installed in the coming weeks.
