Councillor Angela Campbell, Convener of Education, Families and Children visited Bellshill Academy this week to meet the youth work team and young volunteers who provide activities for younger pupils during and after the school day.
Ash McGuire a pupil at Bellshill Academy welcomed Councillor Campbell to Bellshill in his role as MSYP for the area.
Councillor Campbell said: “I’m delighted to endorse Youth Work Week and highlight the work of our youth work teams here in North Lanarkshire.
“More than one in four children and young people are officially recognised as living in poverty in Scotland. This can have a significant impact on health and wellbeing, access to services, educational attainment, and pathways to employment.
“In addition, many young people currently experience poverty related stigma and discrimination.
“Youth work plays a vital role supporting the needs of young people whilst ensuring they have equal access to services and that their voices are heard.”
