To celebrate International Women’s Day, Provost Kenny Duffy joined members of the Airdrie Adult Learners Forum as they took part in a range of activities including Tai Chi, sign language, and arts and crafts.

International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

Jennifer Wallace, Chairperson of Airdrie Adult Learners’ Forum, said: “We work together as a team to mark international women’s day to encourage women to feel safe in our community and to come along and find out more about the activities we run from the Chapelside Centre.

“The event was well attended and provides us with the opportunity to discuss and celebrate women’s achievements.”

Provost Duffy added: “It was great to come along to meet the group and find out more about the good work they do in the community. It was especially fitting to meet up with them on International Women’s Day which is so important and does so much to celebrate women's achievements and advance the need for a gender equal world.”

For IWD 2023, the global campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity.

The campaign aims to encourage important conversations on Why equal opportunities aren't enough and why equal isn't always fair. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
