Condorrat Primary School celebrated girls’ football this week with a special visit from Laura McLaughlin, Captain of Kilmarnock Ladies Football Team.

The school has 34 girls playing football each week and recently took part in their first football festival run by Active Schools in partnership with New College Lanarkshire at Broadwood Stadium.

The Kilmarnock star watched the girls training, provided them with an opportunity to ask questions about her football career and autographed a photo for every girl.

Weekly football sessions are delivered by Miss Dalbeck who teaches at the school.

She said: “The girls train each week at lunch time and their footballing ability has really developed over the past few months and their interest in football has intensified due to many factors including, the profile of women’s football, the investment of providing more football events locally and being aware of positive role models like Laura.

“Having her visit the school is a very special opportunity for the girls.

“The overall aim is to continue to encourage girls’ participation in football throughout the school and signpost them into local clubs and community sessions”.

Active Schools Coordinator Lee McParland added: “This is a fantastic example of a school promoting sport for all.

“Condorrat Primary School are working towards sportscotland’s Gold School Sport Award by increasing physical activity levels and encouraging all pupils to try new activities and get involved in community sport”.
