Four special walks have been organised to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Get Walking Lanarkshire.
Since it was set up in 2014, Get Walking Lanarkshire has welcomed 75,947 walkers on 7,113 weekly health walks across North and South Lanarkshire.
A partnership between North and South Lanarkshire Councils, NHS Lanarkshire and Paths for All, Get Walking Lanarkshire currently organises 33 free weekly walks.
Everyone is welcome to join the walks, which last no longer than an hour and go at a gentle pace. They are designed to offer health and well-being benefits and an opportunity to meet new people – often with a cuppa at the end!
A team of 90 walk volunteers lead the local walks. Six of the team have been involved for the whole 10 years!
The four walks marking Get Walking Lanarkshire’s 10th anniversary are:
- Monday 13 May, 10.30am at Malls Mire Community Woodland, Rutherglen
- Tuesday 14 May, 10.30am at South Haugh Local Nature Reserve, Hamilton
- Wednesday 15 May, 11am at Baron’s Haugh/ Dalzell Estate, Motherwell
- Thursday 16 May, 10am at Auchinstarry, Kilsyth
“The health walks are an excellent way to enjoy the local area, make friends and keep fit and healthy,” said Councillor Helen Loughran, Convener of the Environment and Climate Change Committee.
“The success of Get Walking Lanarkshire over the last ten years is clear with more than 75,000 people taking part and the number of weekly walks reaching 33. Congratulations to everyone involved on their achievements.”
