To help celebrate Care Day 2024, we asked care experienced young people, whether they were looked after at home, in kinship care, foster care or residential to tell us what care meant to them.
Care Day is the world’s biggest celebration of people with care experience and this year was marked on Friday 16 February. The term “Care Experienced” refers to anyone who has been or is currently in care.
Councillor Angela Campbell, Convener of Education, Children and Families welcomed some of the young people who took part in the competition, run in partnership with Who Cares Scotland, to the civic centre on Care Day to see their winning entries.
“Care Day is an opportunity to showcase the talents of all those with care experience and those who work to support them. I was delighted to welcome these outstanding young people and have the opportunity to find out first-hand what care meant to them and hear about their real-life experiences, said Councillor Campbell.
“As a corporate parent, we proudly support ‘The Promise’ which endeavors to provide love, care and stability for everyone living in a care environment. Listening to the experiences of these young people is crucial to providing them with the best support possible, to allow them to develop and flourish.”
