Pledges made at the Promise Conference by corporate parents to support and improve the care experience for young people have been posted to the chamber tower at the civic centre.

Care Day is an annual international celebration of the Care Experienced community and the theme this year is to challenge the stigma faced by the community.

Councillor Angela Campbell said: “Care Day is an opportunity to highlight the outstanding achievements of all those with care experience and those who work to support them.

“We want to ensure that in line with ‘The Promise’, we build the foundations that provide love, care and stability for everyone in a care environment.

“As a council, we have a firm commitment to Keeping ‘The Promise’ and we will continue to work closely with the care experienced community and partner agencies to give those in care all the support they need to succeed.”

Provost Kenneth Duffy added: “I was delighted to welcome these young people and share in their stories and accomplishments. It’s vital that we listen to the views of young people with care experience so we know how best they can be supported.

“This year’s Care Day theme is about challenging the stigma faced by the care community. We can all play a part in breaking down these barriers and provide the practical support, guidance and help that everyone needs to be able to flourish.

“Today is about celebrating the rights of children and young people, and looking forward to helping them work towards their futures.”
