Temporary CCTV cameras have been installed at a busy road section on the A725 at the junction of Kirkshaws Road and Whifflet Street in Coatbridge, to help with traffic monitoring and in response to concerns raised by the local community.

The deployable camera unit, funded through our Local Development Programme (LDP), will assist in gathering evidence for a potential permanent CCTV installation. Regular reports will be compiled to assess the camera’s impact and information shared with relevant partners including Police Scotland.

Councillor Geraldine Woods, Communities Convener explained: "This is a positive step towards improving safety at this very busy junction. By collecting this valuable data, we can work with our partners, including Transport Scotland, and hopefully help address some of the concerns raised by our local communities."

Appropriate signage will be installed to inform road users and pedestrians that the junction is under CCTV monitoring. Responsibility for the road system around the Shawhead junction area is managed by Transport Scotland.
