Communities across our area will continue to see improvements in housing standards as we invest £314m in council homes.

Our wide-ranging 5-year Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Capital Programme aims to provide high quality, safe and sustainable properties for our tenants. A number of projects are already underway or nearing completion, with plans in place to accelerate works through to 2026.

The next phase, approved at a recent meeting of the housing committee, covers a number of areas with key priorities identified in the coming financial year including:

  • Installation of new heating systems using advanced technologies to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
  • Solar Panel Installations with over 550 installations completed by March 2024 and plans for over 1000 more during the current financial year.
  • Improving insulation including loft, cavity wall and thermal upgrading to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.
  • Roofing and Rendering upgrades including non-traditional properties such as Swedish Timber style houses.
  • Rolling replacement programme for windows, doors, bathrooms and kitchens across identified areas.
  • Replacement of lead pipework to ensure water safety for residents.
  • Tower sprinkler system installations and lift improvements.

Councillor Michael McPake, Convener of Housing, explained: “It is vital we continue to invest in improving our existing housing stock and improving the quality of life for our tenants.

“This significant investment highlights our commitment to provide safe a sustainable housing for our residents now and in the future. We are focusing on energy efficiency, environmental sustainability and improving the living standards for our communities.”
