Could your garden be one of the best in bloom in North Lanarkshire? Open to all to council tenants, this year’s garden awards are set to be bigger and brighter than ever as green-fingered gardeners enjoy the sunshine and get their garden spaces competition ready.

Our annual competition is open to council tenants from across the area, with awards presented for the Best Individual Garden and Best Shared/Communal Garden. And there’s plenty of time to cultivate your garden to look its best with the closing date set for Friday 18th August.

From crisp manicured lawns and beautiful blooms to colourful window boxes and shared garden areas, all entries are welcome.

This year’s categories include the best individual garden, which is open to an individual address and the garden maintained by a member of the household and the best shared/communal garden, which is a household that shares a garden space with others. Examples include: a four-in-a-block, low/high rise flats or supported accommodation. This entry must be in a group as a collective name rather than an individual, for example ‘Residents of North Lanarkshire Complex’. One winner per category will be selected in each locality.

You can enter by completing our application form or contact tenantparticipation@northlan.gov.uk and a copy can be sent to you.

Tracy Lennon, Tenant Participation Manager, said: “Last year saw us receive the largest number of entries yet. We’re always delighted with the enthusiasm that surrounds our annual awards and every year we see standards rise, with tenants becoming more imaginative in the use of the garden space they have.

“Summer’s here and it’s great to see the sun shining. And while this good weather is set to continue, we’re encouraging more people to send in their entries or nominate a neighbour in their local community who has a show stopping garden. We’re looking forward to another bumper crop of entries in this year’s competition and seeing North Lanarkshire in bloom.”
