Young musicians from across North Lanarkshire gathered at St Ambrose High School for the highly anticipated contest.
The event, which took place on Wednesday 26 April, allows talented young musicians to showcase their skills and compete for the prestigious title. It was an evening filled with exceptional performances, and the judges had the difficult task of selecting a winner.
Angus Ritchie, a pupil at Chryston High School, emerged victorious as the winner of the North Lanarkshire Young Solo Performer of the Year 2023. Angus showcased his remarkable skills on the euphonium and his performance was nothing short of outstanding.
Kirk Richardson, Instrumental Music Service Lead Officer, explained: “Angus will now represent North Lanarkshire in the Scottish Young Musician Final, to be held at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in May 2023. The event promises to be an exciting one, with some of the most talented young musicians from all over Scotland competing for the title.”
The runners-up were equally impressive, with Gerard O’Neil from St Maurice High School taking the second spot with his captivating performance on the alto sax. Kurtis Fang from Coltness High School came in third place with his beautiful piano piece.
