South Biggar Road and Craigneuk Avenue in Airdrie will be closed for five days this month for resurfacing work.
The resurfacing will complete the junction improvement works by the council, in partnership with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
South Biggar Road will close from its junction with the A73 Carlisle Road north westwards to the junction of Gartleahill from 00:01 on Monday 14 November until 23:59 on Friday 18 November. A signed diversion route will be in place to maintain local access to residential and business properties.
Craigneuk Avenue will close from its junction with the A73 Carlisle Road eastwards to the junction of Howletnest Road from 00:01 on Monday 21 November until 23:59 on Friday 25 November. A signed diversion route will be in place to maintain local access to residents, businesses, and the Excelsior Football Stadium.
Temporary traffic signals will remain in operation on A73 Carlisle Road throughout the closures. The planned completion date for the works is 28 November, which is weather dependant.
We have planned and organised the works, with our contractor, to minimise disruption to the public.
Improvement work carried out includes:
- two mini roundabouts, with dedicated right hand turn lanes on the A73 Carlisle Road;
- an upgraded staggered pedestrian crossing on Carlisle Road;
- widening, realignment and resurfacing of the junctions at Carlisle Road, South Biggar Road and Craigneuk Avenue;
- widening of the eastern footway to create a shared use path for pedestrians and cyclists;
- utility diversions and new street lighting, drainage and landscaping.
