Our CLD Adult Learning project, Sum It Up, focuses on supporting adults with everyday maths skills and building confidence and qualifications in numeracy.
Last year, we partnered with New College Lanarkshire to offer the National 5 Maths and National 5 Application of Maths courses to learners across North Lanarkshire.
The course took a hybrid approach, with learners attending an in-person session on the Coatbridge campus once per week and then adding an additional online evening in the New Year.
And an impressive eleven of the learners successfully passed - with seven of the cohort gaining A passes.
Students praised the courses for the life-changing opportunities it has presented:
- Shannen said: “I couldn't have got into university without the course, thank you for all your help. I got offered a space in the primary education course at Strathclyde which was my first choice!”
- Ellie, who did a Nat 5 maths, added: “The Nat 5 course has had a huge impact on my future as it will allow me to study a PDGE and start a career in teaching, which wouldn't have been available to me without a N5 maths qualification. The fact there were no tuition fees for the course also removed a huge barrier for me.”
- Kaitlin who studied the appliance of maths, said: “From being a school refuser at 14 my journey hasn't been straightforward, to say the least. Then I finally got into university only to realise that I'd need to find a few hundred pounds to sit a maths exam. This program removed that hurdle for me.”
We are offering another FREE National 5 programme starting September 2024 and a FREE National 4 programme beginning November 2024.
