Key actions to grow the local economy, create jobs, build new homes and improve the transport network in the year ahead have been agreed.
The Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan Action Plan for 2025/26 outlines how the council and its partners will work to improve the local area for residents and businesses.
Some of the actions the council will carry out in 2025/26 include:
- continuing to deliver the council’s ambitious new supply programme including starting work on six new sites to deliver 140 homes and purchase 120 homes through the open market purchase scheme;
- ongoing development of town centres, including a long-term investment plan for Coatbridge to be agreed with the UK Government, work starting on the redevelopment of the former Motherwell Town Hall into homes for social rent, progressing our plans for Cumbernauld Town centre and submitting applications for funding to progress the Rediscovering Airdrie project;
- remediating another 1.6 hectares of derelict land for use by business and industry, and supporting the creation of new industrial units at Gartcosh Industrial Park, Condor Park at Eurocentral, Ravenscraig and Link Park, Newhouse;
- providing support for developers through the statutory consent process to bring more new business and jobs to North Lanarkshire;
- progress key infrastructure projects supported by Glasgow City Region City Deal at Ravenscraig, Eurocentral, Orchard Farm and the East Airdrie Link Road; and
- delivering training through our NL Academies to support young people into jobs in the built environment, digital and care sectors.
“North Lanarkshire has a strong local economy that continues to grow, bringing investment and creating jobs,” said Councillor Alex McVey, Convener of the Enterprise and Fair Work Committee.
“The council is working to support that growth through construction of new homes, roads, business and industrial premises, ensuring people have relevant skills for the jobs market, and reshaping town centres to provide modern, attractive facilities to meet local needs.
“Our Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan Action Plan shows the work we will carry out in the year ahead to improve opportunities for all and ensure North Lanarkshire is the place to live, learn, work, invest and visit.”
