We celebrated a special milestone with couple, Mr and Mrs Robert and Agnes Logan, who became the 1000th tenants to move into one of our new build council homes.

The couple, who are settling in to their new two-bedroom net zero home on the site at Dykehead Road, Airdrie, told us how delighted they are with their new home, the quality of its build and the benefits the house’s energy efficiency features bring.

Our net zero homes are part of our largest council house project at Dykehead Road in Airdrie, which is the first phase of homes for this re-provisioning site where towers were demolished and are being replaced by 150 new, modern homes.

This is just one of the exciting developments being rolled out across North Lanarkshire under our new council house building programme which aims to deliver 5,000 new homes by 2035. We’ve already completed 45 new developments and have a further 10 on site, demonstrating the progress we’re making in delivering our ambitious target.

Mr & Mrs Logan welcomed visitors to their home and were presented with flowers to mark the occasion. They said: “We love our new home. We’d previously lived in a high-rise tower for many years and it’s been such a change for us. It’s great having a brand new home with a front and back door and a driveway and we love getting out into the garden.

“The size of the rooms is good too and we’ve already noticed that living in an energy efficient home is helping to keep our rooms cosier and reduce the cost of our energy bills. It’s a lovely development and we’re very happy here.”

Convener of Housing, Councillor Michael McPake, thanked Mr & Mrs Logan for a warm welcome. He said: “I’m delighted to hear how happy they are in their new home and that they are already seeing the benefits of net zero living.

“These are our first net zero homes and feature a range of energy efficiency measures including triple glazed windows, air source heat pumps which control heating and store hot water and additional PV panels that feed into a battery to allow our tenants to store energy. All of these features make our homes more energy efficient, help reduce our carbon footprint and help tackle fuel poverty.

“We’re committed to transforming towns and communities and delivering on our plans for the future of North Lanarkshire to make it a better place for people to live in, and our council house programme is vital to that ambition.”

The net zero homes were built by contractor CCG (Scotland) Ltd.
