About ELC

ELC free entitlement will almost double to 1,140 hours per year from August 2020

ELC North Lanarkshire

We are working hard to develop a new, improved and flexible service for parents and carers across North Lanarkshire. These changes will be in place for the 2020/21 school term.

The extra hours will be available to all children aged three and four-years old, as well as some two-year-olds. The focus will be on flexibility for families, as well as an emphasis on quality and a strong connection with outdoor learning and learning through play.

For the most up to date information about progress towards August 2020, visit our dedicated new ELC microsite.

Eligibility for entitlement

Until August 2020 (when entitlement increases substantially) all three to five year old children are entitled to 600 hours of early learning and childcare in line with Scottish Government guidance. It can get a bit confusing working out when your child can start depending on when their birthday is. The funding dates for 2019/2020 are as follows:

  • Children who reach 3 years of age between 1 March 2019 and 13 August 2019: the start date will be 14 August 2019

  • Children reaching 3 years between 14 August 2019 and 29 February 2020: the start date is the day after the child's 3rd birthday

  • Children applying to North Lanarkshire Council from another Local Authority (Cross Boundary Protocol will apply) : the start date will be the term after the child's 3rd birthday (Funded Providers only)

Application Forms are available from any local authority nursery establishment or funded provider for the council or by using the "downloads" section.

Offer of place letters for August 2019 were posted to parents on Friday 10 May 2019 by 2nd class post. Details of the application process for next year will be available by November.
