Neighbourhood and Community 2020/21
Estate management
We continually aim to improve the quality of our neighbourhoods. Tenant-led inspections, more often called Estate Walkabouts are regularly carried out jointly with tenants and council officers. The walkabout aims to highlight and address any areas of concern, which results in the improvement of gardens, closes and any common areas within our estates. Unfortunately, due to Scottish Government restrictions in response to Covid-19, these were on hold for most of the year. However, as restrictions relax this part of the service will restart.
Community Safety Hub
In April 2019, the Community Safety Hub was established within the council. The Community Safety Hub supports the continued development of multi-agency partners, working together to make sure our communities are safer and more pleasant to live, work and visit. The hub coordinates, delivers and supports a wide range of community safety activities, including the operation of CCTV, Anti-social Behaviour and Mediation Service, Public Protection Arrangements, Shopwatch and the Emergency Response Centre.
By combining these services we can provide an enhanced and much improved coordinated response to tackle antisocial behaviour and wider community safety issues affecting our communities.
The improvement in our performance is demonstrated in the table below, with improvements over the last three consecutive years. We are also performing very well against the Scottish local authority average.
Indicator Description | 2018/19 | 2019/20 | 2020/21 | Local authority average | Our performance direction |
Percentage of antisocial behaviour cases reported in the last year which were resolved | 96.3% | 97.05% | 99.55% | 92.7% | Improved |
Impact of Covid-19
We adapted well due to mobile working arrangements which enabled us to continue to provide essential services. However, due to Scottish Government guidance, some parts of the service, such as call-outs for witnessing of antisocial behaviour and mediation had to be suspended. Now that restrictions have eased, arrangements are in place to make sure these can restart while following Scottish Government guidance.
