Below you will find answers to some of the questions you may have about setting up and managing your BisAccount.

What is BisAccount?

BisAccount is a simple, secure, sign-in process to help businesses prove who they are and transact with us online using just one username and password,

BisAccount is provided by the Scottish Government’s Improvement Service.

How do I register for a BisAccount?

When you register for BisAccount, you create a unique username and get a password you can use to sign in for the first time. When you sign in for the first time you then create your own secure password.

What are the benefits to my business using BisAccount?

There are many benefits:

  • Simplified access - your business can access the online services we provide by using one username and password.
  • Secure - it will help prevent unauthorised access to your business-sensitive information during transactions.
  • Efficient - reduces administrative overheads.
  • Transparent - businesses are informed about the specific data fields that will be shared with the council. This transparency ensures your business will know exactly which details of your data will be used for accessing services.

Why are we adopting BisAccount?

In line with our 'Digital First' vision, with more business services moving online, adopting BisAccount allows us to establish that the person creating the account is a real person and allows us to transact safely and securely with that business.

What can I use my BisAccount for?

Currently, you can use your BisAccount to book, manage and pay for your business waste collection. We have recently launched our Business Enquiry Service online and you will require a BisAccount to access this service.

What other council services can I use my BisAccount for in the future?

In time, you will be able to use BisAccount to apply for a business grant and request permits so it's important that the organisations whose service you access can confirm you are who you say you are.

Is BisAccount secure?

Yes, your BisAccount will be secure. It has been carefully designed to give you highly secure access to our services and keep you in control of your personal information.

BisAccount’s information security policies, procedures, practices and configuration of the service all follow current best practice. The system's security is regularly reviewed and audited.

How can I keep my BisAccount secure?

When you register for a BisAccount, you will agree to keep your account details secure, and will not divulge your sign-in details or security question to any third parties.

BisAccount is for your personal use and is not transferable.

How much does it cost to use BisAccount?

BisAccount is a free service provided by the Scottish Government’s Improvement Service.

Do you offer any training on using BisAccount?

As part of the launch of BisAccount we have created a short, easy to follow video on steps you take to create an account.

What do I do if I forget my username?

If you forget your username, click on the sign in button from the bisaccount home page and select the option for 'Forgot Username'.

You will be asked to supply further information and if this does not assist, please raise a query with BisAccount Helpdesk.

What do I do if I forget my password?

It's easy to reset your password. A new one-time use password will be sent to you by email. When you request to reset your password, you will be asked to confirm your username and email address to verify that you are the account holder.

What do I do if I’m locked out of my account?

If you have entered an incorrect password three consecutive times your account will be locked. You can unlock your account by requesting a new password using the 'Forgot Password' function.

Who can access my personal information?

The Improvement Service processes applications on behalf of us. Data is held for the minimum period necessary to meet Audit requirements before being permanently deleted from bisaccount.scot.

All access to your information is controlled and audited.

Will my personal details be sold to a private company for commercial purposes?

No. BisAccount has been developed for public sector services only. Your information will not be sold to companies in the private sector.

Will I receive 'spam' email or mail because of BisAccount?

No. We may contact you to let you know that you are entitled to a new service. However, you will never receive 'spam' emails or letters from commercial companies.
