This is one of four main statutory roles in the council that has specific duties as set out in legislation that is carried out as part of wider responsibilities in the council.  

The chief executive has strategic oversight of all council operations, ensuring good governance and appropriate processes are in place and is the chief strategic advisor to the Leader of the Council and elected members, providing them with quality information to support decision-making and scrutiny.

He manages a 12,500-strong workforce and has ultimate responsibility for delivering a range of services and managing our annual revenue and capital budget of around £1.223 billion.

The chief executive is responsible for delivering of The Plan for North Lanarkshire, our long-term vision for North Lanarkshire - a vision of inclusive growth and prosperity for all to bring equal benefits and a fairer distribution of wealth to all North Lanarkshire’s people and communities by making North Lanarkshire the place to Live, Learn, Work, Invest, and Visit.
