Fortissat and Mossend & Holytown by-elections, 10 October 2024

By-elections were held in two council wards on Thursday 10 October

Scottish Labour Party Party candidate Helena Gray has been elected in Ward 16 Mossend and Holytown.

The number of first preference votes polled for each candidate was:

  • Aimee Alexander, Scottish Conservative and Unionist - 127
  • John Cole, Scottish Liberal Democrats - 83
  • Helena Gray, Scottish Labour Party - 616
  • Shahnawaz Khan, Scottish National Party (SNP) - 586
  • Duncan MacMillan, Reform – UK - 263
  • Neil Wilson, UKIP - 11

Total of first preference votes: 1,686

The percentage poll was 15.8% and the electoral quota was 844.

27 ballot papers were rejected. 

 

Scottish Labour Party candidate Clare Margaret Quigley has been elected in Ward 13 Fortissat.

The number of first preference votes polled for each candidate was: 

  • Billy Acheson, British Unionists – For a Better Britain - 241
  • Leigh Butler, Scottish Liberal Democrats - 57
  • Sheila Cameron, Scottish Conservative and Unionist - 124
  • Brendan McAleese, Scottish National Party (SNP) – 447
  • Mary McIntosh, Progressive Change North Lanarkshire - 529
  • Clare Quigley, Scottish Labour Party - 807

Total of first preference votes: 2,205

The percentage poll was 17.9% and the electoral quota was 1,103.

22 ballot papers were rejected.
