Details of how our services are operating over the festive period, including registration offices, social work services and bin collections.
Changes to bin collection dates and council services over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Due to public holidays, there will be no waste collections on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December 2024 and Wednesday 1 January and Thursday 2 January 2025.

Please present your bin by 7am on the morning of collection and remember that it may be collected at a different time from usual.
Food/garden collections
There will be no food/garden collections between Monday 23 December 2024 and Sunday 5 January 2025. Please do not present your brown bin for collection during this period; wait until your first scheduled collection after 5 January.
Special uplifts
There will be no special uplift service between Monday 23 December 2024 and Sunday 5 January 2025.
Christmas trees
Real Christmas trees (with all decorations removed) can be disposed of free of charge at your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre. Please don’t present trees beside your wheeled bin as they will not be uplifted.
Recycling centres
All Household Waste Recycling Centres will close at the earlier time of 2pm on 24 and 31 December 2024. Last entry on these days will be 1.50pm. Centres will be closed on Wednesday 25 December 2024 and Wednesday 1 January 2025.
Our centres are always very busy at this time of year, especially at peak times between 10am and 2pm, so please be aware that traffic management will be in place.
Festive recycling
Wrapping paper and cards, batteries, bottles, foil, and leftovers - so much of your festive waste can be recycled.

Holiday arrangements and helpline numbers
Council offices, including First Stop Shops and Cash Offices, will be closed from Wednesday 25 December 2024 until Friday 3 January 2025.
There are some exceptions, such as Registration Offices. Information and services can be accessed online or by calling the contact numbers below.
Registration services
Registration staff will be available to contact to register deaths remotely, with no face-to-face appointments being taken, by calling the following numbers on the specified dates.
- The Motherwell Registration Office will be available on Friday 27 December from 9am until 4pm on 01698 302206.
- The Airdrie Registration Office will be available on Monday 30 December from 9am until 4pm on 01236 758080.
- The Airdrie Registration Office will be available on Tuesday 31 December from 9am until 4pm on 01236 758080.
Please note that due to statutory timescales only death registrations are being carried out.
