Strike Action Suspended
We have been informed by the trade unions, GMB, Unison and Unite the Union that their planned industrial action which had been due to start on Wednesday 14 August 2024 has been suspended. This means that bin collections will continue as usual and recycling centres remain open.
The trade unions UNISON, GMB and Unite the Union intend to carry out industrial action over the nationally negotiated pay offer in many council areas, including North Lanarkshire, from Wednesday 14 August until Thursday 22 August 2024.
This will affect our waste services, recycling and Streetscene services and means that the last bin collections will take place on Tuesday 13 August and will not resume until Thursday 22 August. There will be no bin collections during the strike.
All household waste recycling centres will be closed, and there will be no street cleaning services.
Following the end of the strike action, from Thursday 22 August, the priority will be to collect black general waste and brown food and garden waste bins throughout the week until Friday 30 August.
If your black or brown bin was scheduled to be collected on one of the strike days, you should leave your bin out from Thursday 22 August and we will collect and empty it as soon as possible.
Please do not leave additional bags/boxes of rubbish beside bins as they can be disposed of free of charge at recycling centres when they open on Thursday 22 August, although they are expected to be busier than usual.
Please note - there will be no blue or green-lidded recycling bin collections from Tuesday 13 August up to Thursday 29 August. From Friday 30 August, these bins will be emptied on your next scheduled collection day. These dates are subject to change.
