Some of the projects that we're working on for Communities and Place include:
- £42,500 invested into the pump track at Bellshill and a further investment of £250,000 supported Ravenscraig active travel initiatives.
- £400,000 has been invested into the redevelopment of the Strathclyde Country Park Watersports Building into a near net-zero Green Health Hub which will benefit the community and support tourism to the area.
- Tourism projects have been awarded funding of £120,000 to encourage tourism within the region. A Heritage and Countryside Trail has been installed around 10 sites in North Lanarkshire and tells a story at each location through signage as well as an Interactive App which can be accessed through a QR code. A Parks App has been developed at Drumpellier Country Park and can be downloaded for information and walks around the park. These are designed to encourage and enhance visitor experiences.
- A Community Asset Fund will provide grants to local community groups to support the asset transfer and development of community facilities.
- Digital Challenge Fund ran 2 rounds of grants to support local community and voluntary groups to improve the coverage of digital networks within their facility by providing grants for digital infrastructure. The grant application process is now closed with successful community-based organisations in the process of upgrading Wi-Fi infrastructure. - Active Travel is creating a wide range of connections across North Lanarkshire that can be utilised for everyday journeys such as travelling for employment, education or meeting essential needs as well as recreation
- £300,000 has been invested into upgrading Motherwell Train Station and active travel links to Ravenscraig, Strathclyde Park and the Civic Centre
- Volunteer NL provides opportunities for volunteering within the local community in various areas and roles - see our Volunteer NL page on how to register. A Challenge Fund also provided support to local groups and organisations to support volunteering.
- Fuel poverty support service is available to vulnerable and/or fuel-poor households across North Lanarkshire that require support to resolve any energy-related issue
