Town Centre Fund

The Town Centre Fund is in place to provide an opportunity for local businesses or groups to enhance their town centres through improvement works.

About the fund

The Town Centre Fund sees an investment of £200,000 across North Lanarkshire's eight town centres with an additional £20,000 available for the Northern Corridor settlements. The eight town centres have been allocated a portion of the funding based on business percentage, population, and town centre visit rates.

Who can apply to the fund?

To apply to the fund you must be a small business, organisation or community group operating in North Lanarkshire.

You must have a project that meets the requirements of the funding.

What can funding be used for?

Funding may be used for a range of purposes as outlined below. However, organisations must take into consideration and ensure that any proposed activity can be delivered within the financial year of 2024 - 2025.

Successful projects which have ongoing maintenance issues must clearly identify who will be responsible for this as part of the application. The council cannot be acknowledged for ongoing maintenance issues - should this be applicable.

Examples of successful project proposals are as follows:

  • Town centre benches, fencing, or other small-scale improvements.

  • External building repairs - Business shutters, updated signage, new windows, or gutters.

  • New green spaces with no maintenance costs or works associated with the area.

  • Heritage links via signage, information points or interactive elements.

  • Cycle routes.

  • Campaigning events - shop local, environmental or current non-political issues.

  • Events - educational, environmental or health and wellbeing.

Funding exclusions

Funding is not available for:

  • Businesses applying for funding for internal business upgrades, for example new tills.

  • Items of equipment of a personal nature.

  • Repairs or improvements to premises not owned by or leased by the organisation.
