Single-use plastics

The Environmental Protection (Single-use Plastic Products) (Scotland) Regulations 2021 came into full force in Scotland from 12 August 2022.

Whilst the regulations state that local authorities ‘may’ authorise staff to enforce them, there is no statutory requirement for local authorities to do so.

Due to resource and capacity issues, our Environmental Health and Trading Standards services are currently not advising upon, or enforcing, the regulations.
