Details of how our services are operating over the festive period, including registration offices, social work services and bin collections.
Sadly, our communities are sometimes affected by incidents of vandalism and graffiti.
You can report graffiti to us and we will remove it.
If you see any incidents of vandalism, please report it to Police Scotland on 101.
Reporting graffiti on utility cabinets
We regularly receive reports of graffiti on utility cabinets and requests to have it cleaned.
The council can only remove graffiti if it’s on council-owned property. In some cases, the utility cabinets are owned by other public organisations or private companies.
This page provides information to help identify who is responsible for each type of cabinet or equipment and where you should report the graffiti, or any other problem.
Scottish Power
Most electricity equipment will have a sign stating it is owned by Scottish Power and the electrical hazard sign below. Older boxes will be painted green, while more recent boxes are dark grey. You should report any problems at: www.spenergynetworks.co.uk/pages/enquiries_for_civil_works_at_local_substation_weeds.aspx
Scottish Gas Networks
SGN cabinets come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are normally clearly marked with ownership and contact details.
You should report graffiti on SGN apparatus to customer@sgn.co.uk
Openreach
Openreach has a range of equipment relating to phone lines, including boxes, poles and road and footpath covers. Most cabinets are green and have a metal mark showing details such as GPO, BT and Telecom. A guide to the company’s apparatus and a form to report damage are available at: www.openreach.com/help-and-support/damage-health-and-safety
Virgin Media
Virgin Media cabinets are very similar to Openreach’s unit. Please see the Openreach guide above which highlights distinguishing factors. You should report any problems at: www.virginmedia.com/help/reportingdamage
Vodafone
Vodafone cabinets are similar to Openreach units but are normally clearly labelled and provide contact details. You should report any problems at: www.vodafone.co.uk/business/developers-streetworks-support/report-street-equipment-issue
Council lighting services
We have utility cabinets for equipment relating to street lighting and traffic lights. These are usually grey. You can report problems with our boxes by clicking on the button at the top of this page. If possible, please provide a photo of the utility box and its location when reporting a problem to help us identify the box.
