We are taking action to enhance community safety by deploying an innovative mobile CCTV system.

The move is aimed at addressing and curbing antisocial behaviour to create safer neighbourhoods for residents.

The mobile trailer unit, featuring state-of-the-art 4G technology, represents a significant step forward in community safety initiatives. Unlike traditional vehicle-mounted CCTV, this towable device comes equipped with long-life batteries and Photo-Voltaic (PV) panels, allowing it to self-power for over three weeks.

Michael McPake, Convener of Housing explained: "We believe this new technology will provide increased flexibility in addressing some of the community safety challenges we face across our area.

“Initial testing demonstrated the unit's stability and performance. The device can be quickly set up at different locations, requiring less than two hours for deployment. Its flexibility allows for remote monitoring, reducing the need for additional on-site staff and ensuring efficient operation.

“The mobile unit will be deployed in areas experiencing reports of anti-social behaviour, youth disorder, or criminality and during large public events to improve community safety. The success of this initiative will inform decisions on future permanent CCTV installations, focusing investment in areas with the greatest need and helping in creating safer and more secure communities.”
