Assessing Options: Stage 2

Stage 3 - Community engagement has begun

We have been working to develop the route of the new road.

We want to update you on the project and show you our latest proposals.

Tell us what you think from 18 November to 10 January 2025.

We developed the short listed options and assessed how each one performed against:

  • the economic benefit
  • the environment (benefits and impact)
  • connecting residents to jobs and education (integration)
  • supporting improvements to public transport (accessibility)
  • improving safety for all road users
  • how the walking, cycling and wheeling path fits with existing roads and paths

We assessed each option to see:

  • how easy they are to build
  • are they affordable
  • are they value for money

For each option, we considered these important issues:

  • engineering
  • the environment
  • traffic

It was clear from early in the process, that Options A and C should not be taken forward to the final assessment.

We then further developed the Option B route and considered four variations of different lengths to take forward.

We also considered a variation west of Riggend after Greengairs Road and joining the dual carriageway to the north of Riggend (Option E). This option was unaffordable and therefore rejected.

Watch the video for more information on how we assessed the options.

The video explains how we assessed the options for the East Airdrie Link Road at Stage 2 (Phase 1). We identified Option B as the emerging preferred option and sought your feedback.
