Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Information on sites of importance for nature conservation

There are currently over 350 SINC sites in North Lanarkshire designated in the local plan. This provides these sites with a degree of non-statutory protection.

They contain most of the key habitats and species which are identified for protection and enhancement in the Biodiversity Action Plan.

During 2008-2013 we reviewed our SINCs to resurvey the wildlife and ensure we were following national best practice and guidance.

As part of an ongoing process, we are trying to identify landowners of these areas. If you are a landowner in the North Lanarkshire area we would be grateful if you would take the time to view the SINC map below and contact us with any updates.

If you are the owner of a SINC site and would like further information on the designation, the site's wildlife, or advice on management please email greenspace@northlan.gov.uk
