Christ the King is a co-educational Roman Catholic primary school. Our present school roll is 159, with a current capacity of 265. The school which is situated in the village of Holytown approximately four miles from Motherwell, was built in 1976.

The building is semi-open plan and the accommodation comprises of seven teaching bases with adjacent activity areas. There is a library and music room. The large study/dining area can facilitate whole class lessons. There is an open assembly and PE hall with stage which is regularly used for school productions, a medical suite and staff conference and resource room.

We aim to

  • Provide high quality teaching and learning is a safe, secure, trusting environment by implementing and develop in each pupil the capacity to be a Successful Learner
  • Promote our catholic identity and demonstrate how our religious and moral values permeate both life in the school and the wider community, where each person plays a vital role in developing the moral, spiritual and social values of each pupil in preparation for there role as a Responsible Citizen.
  • Raise achievement in all circular areas by building positive self image, high self-esteem, confidence and mutual respect and so develop in each pupil the capacity to be a Confident Individual.
  • To continue to place a strong emphasis on developing our relationship with all stakeholders by promoting the concept of active partnership and a sense of community by making every effort to ensure that each individual is given opportunities to fulfil their potential and so encourage each to become an Effective Contributor.

Pupils normally transfer from primary and secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 years. So that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. The associated secondary school with Christ the King is Taylor High. Taylor high school has established an extensive liaison programme including a block of six weeks where P7 attend Taylor high one morning per week. This programme ensures that our pupils are very familiar with Taylor high before their transfer.
