Carbrain Primary School serves the Carbrain area of Cumbernauld New Town. It is a non-denominational school with provision for children Primary 1 to Primary 7. The current school roll is 196 and the capacity of the school is 317. Parents should note that the working capacity of the school will vary dependent upon the number of pupils at each stage and the way in which the classes are organised.

Class Structure: There are nine classrooms, a library, a gym hall, I.C.T. Suite, General Purpose Room, Playroom, Kidz Zone, Staff Resources Room, Medical Room and a Dining Room.

The school has a nursery class with one nursery teacher and four early learning practitioners which offers 30 places in the morning and 20 places in the afternoon. The nursery has two good sized playrooms and a secure outside area.

The school employs an integrated approach to promote the development of multi agency working to ensure we are "Getting It Right For Every Child". We work closely with Psychological Services, Social Work, Community Police, Public Health Nurse, School Nurse, Community Learning and Development Worker (Schools), Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy and Pre-5 Learning Support.

The school has an active Parent Council which works with the school in a variety of ways throughout each session. All parents are invited to attend meetings which at the present time are held approximately every six weeks.

Extra curricular activities are organised throughout the year. Examples of these are: excursions to places of interest linked to class topic work, Scottish Week including a P.7 Burns' Supper, school shows and concerts, a visit to Kilbowie Outdoor Learning Centre and school fayres. Children are encouraged to join after school clubs which offer a wide variety of experiences e.g. Fitness Classes, First Aid, Choir, Relax Kids, a variety of Sports, recorder/guitar clubs and chess club.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Carbrain primary normally transfer to Cumbernauld Academy.

Through the commitment of the staff, the support of parents and our links with the community, Carbrain Primary School is able to provide an enhanced learning experience for all pupils.
