Keeping employees, customers and businesses safe

The Environmental Health Officers from the Business Regulation team are here to support businesses by:

  • keeping employees and customers safe;
  • helping to reduce costs associate with accidents, business downtime and staff absence; and
  • making sure that you stay on the right side of the law and so avoid legal action.

Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 we have a duty to make adequate arrangements for the enforcement of relevant health and safety statutory provisions within our area. This duty is directed by the National Local Authority Enforcement Code.

Whilst the primary responsibility for managing health and safety risks lies with the business who creates the risk, Environmental Health Officers have an important role in ensuring the effective and proportionate management of risks, supporting business, protecting their communities and contributing to a wider public health agenda.
