New premises allow for expansion plans

Chemco International Ltd

An innovative manufacturing company has made its headquarters in North Lanarkshire, thanks to support from North Lanarkshire Properties LLP (NLP) and the council.

Chemco International Ltd have bought the premises they were renting from NLP in Coatbridge and acquired neighbouring land, which enabled them to expand operations and secure the long-term future of the business in North Lanarkshire.

The company designs and manufactures environmentally friendly protective coatings for the marine and Industrial sectors. It is 100% employee owned, has an annual turnover well in excess of £5m, and exports around 80% of its products internationally.

"We are very pleased to have been able to help Chemco secure the premises they needed to expand and grow their successful business," said Councillor Ian McNeil, Chair of North Lanarkshire Properties LLP.

"Without the capacity for development, the company would have had to look elsewhere so it's good news that they are staying here in North Lanarkshire, securing 30 jobs and contributing to a thriving local economy

"I would like to congratulate Colin Wade and the employee owners at Chemco on their achievements and thank them for pledging their future to North Lanarkshire."

This is the first phase of a major investment programme by the company, which has seen £1million spent on the Coatbridge premises.

Colin Wade, Managing Director of Chemco, said: "We are extremely fortunate to be able to provide a good news story in this period where so much bad news is all around. Whilst the past months have not been without their challenges; the business continues to be busy and successful.

"We remain ambitious and confident of our ability to secure those opportunities that do still exist in these otherwise difficult economic times. None of this would have been possible without the team work and commitment of all thirty employee owners at Chemco International, each of whom I know are extremely grateful to North Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire Properties LLP for their support."

North Lanarkshire Properties LLP and the council offer a range of support to businesses in North Lanarkshire or looking to locate to the area, including finding property or land suitable for companies of all sizes and access to one-to-one advice on all aspects of running a business, through Business Gateway Lanarkshire.

"Having successful companies like Chemco International Ltd building their future in North Lanarkshire is key to developing a strong local economy," said Councillor Allan Graham, Convener of the council's Enterprise and Growth Committee.

"North Lanarkshire is an ideal location for new and existing businesses, with excellent transport links, a strong workforce and ongoing investment in our infrastructure.
