New draft Community Safety Strategy

Strategy cover

We're asking residents for their views and comments on our new draft Community Safety Strategy which helps people feel safe and be safe in their local communities.

Community safety is a priority for the council and its partners who work together to improve the quality of life for North Lanarkshire's residents and ensure areas are safe from crime, disorder and danger, and that the risks from injury and harm are minimised.

The plan's priorities focus on helping people to be safe and to feel safe in their communities. Key areas include: effectively tackling antisocial behaviour; tackling gender based violence and protecting people at risk of harm; reducing harm from unintentional injury and fire; improving road safety and reducing serious violence, crime and disorder.

The strategy is co-produced with our communities, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Health and Social Care, NHS Lanarkshire and a range of council services, such as housing, environmental, road safety, education and justice.

We've already organised stakeholder events and used the views and feedback to shape the document. We want to make sure we've heard from as many people as possible and included all the local issues and priorities that matter most.

Please take a look at our draft strategy, fill in our survey and let us have your views. All surveys should be completed by 1 October 2020.

Councillor Angela Campbell, Convener of Community Empowerment said: "Community safety is fundamentally about improving people's quality of life, and encompasses everything that helps people to be and to feel safe in their homes, within their community and at places of work or leisure.

"Improving community safety is a crucial priority for our communities, the council, and its partners and our strategy demonstrates our ongoing commitment to making a real difference to people's lives in North Lanarkshire. The strategy also sets out how we'll continue to measure the progress we're making to deliver the targets set.

"We have a collective ambition to increase prosperity, inclusiveness and outcomes for all. Our vision for community safety is aligned with our overarching ambition as set out in The Plan for North Lanarkshire; to make North Lanarkshire the place to live, learn, work, invest and visit."
