An event designed to help Lanarkshire women recognise and overcome internal barriers that may be holding them back from progressing in business will be held in March.

The free event - A Mind For Business - will take place on Thursday 12 March at Crossbasket Castle, High Blantyre from 12.00pm to 2.30pm. Lunch will be provided.

The session is the third in a series of events in a year-long Lanarkshire Women In Business pilot initiative, backed by North and South Lanarkshire Councils, Business Gateway Lanarkshire, New College Lanarkshire and the Federation of Small Businesses.

The event in March will explore common barriers and factors unique to the female psyche, including confidence, risk appetite and imposter syndrome.

A key focus of the event will be to equip female attendees with tools and techniques to help:

  • increase motivation;
  • develop resilience;
  • improve accountability and planning;
  • boost self-belief and sales performance; and
  • enable a better work/life balance.

Aimed at aspiring and existing business owners, attendees will be able to get help to both develop as well as re-set strategies for growth in 2020.

Yvonne Weir, Enterprise Manager at the council commented: "This event will tackle key issues that we know hold back many women from realising their true potential.

"External factors such as access to finance are tangible and perhaps better understood. Some of the inner challenges that women face are less talked about but many of us will identify with them.

"We want the event to help women recognise the commonality that exists and that, with the right support, there are no limits to what can be achieved personally and professionally."
