Give a Gift Card - Thank you for your generosity

More than 900 gift cards, worth £11,000, have been collected through the Give-a-Gift-Card appeal organised by North Lanarkshire Council.

Depute Leader Give a Festive Gift Card

Throughout the appeal, people were asked to donate gift cards worth at least £10 that could be exchanged for presents suitable for children and young people.

The 917 cards are now being distributed to families working with the council's social work and community learning and development services. This allows time for the families to use the cards and get the gifts ready before Christmas Day.

Councillor Paul Kelly, Depute Leader of the Council, said: "Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the people of North Lanarkshire hundreds of children and youngsters will now wake up to a present this Christmas. And not any present but one chosen by those who best know their wishes, interests and needs - their families.

"Everyone who's donated a gift card to this cause has reason to be proud. Whether it's been individually, as part of a group or through fundraising, their contribution is crucial in helping local families that feel under the strain at this time of the year.

"We are also grateful to all the businesses and partners that played a part in the appeal, to ensure that every child in North Lanarkshire can feel the magic of the festive season."

Over 20 organisations and employers, including the council, have supported the appeal by placing drop-off points in their premises and encouraging their staff and users to donate a gift card.

Mears Group, as well as collecting cards from their employees, distributed and collected the 70 boxes spread throughout North Lanarkshire while PWC assisted in setting up the boxes — a joint effort that will help make a difference to hundreds of families this Christmas.

The local organisations which contributed to the appeal are: Routes to Work, Albert Bartlett, Engie, Saltire, Culture and Leisure NL, Mears, Lanarkshire Enterprise Services Ltd (Business Gateway), St Andrew's Hospice, CMS Window Systems, Craigmarloch Nurseries Ltd, Indeglas, Crosshill Parish Church, Joint Equipment Store, CO-OP, New College Lanarkshire, Lanarkshire Business Hub, Scottish Fire & Rescue, Maxim Park, AMEY, Morgan Sindall, Calvary Church, NL Industries, Lidl, NHS, Taylor Wimpey, Airdrie and Clarkston Parish Church and Sidey Ltd.
