New multi sports area opens

Facility for the whole community

St Brendans MUGA opening

A new multi-sports area and running track has been officially opened at St Brendan's Primary School and Muirhouse Primary School in Motherwell.

We have worked in partnership with the schools to raise £110,000 to create the new facility for local children and the wider community.

Funding was provided by Community Matters (Motherwell Locality) Local Development Programme, external grants secured by St Brendan's Primary, Parent Council fundraising and contributions from both schools' funds.

At the official opening on Friday 8 November, Councillor Kenneth Duffy, Chair of Community Matters (Motherwell Locality), praised the development saying: "This project has transformed the grounds of St Brendan's Primary School, and the shared use of the facility with Muirhouse Primary School will greatly enhance the recreation opportunities for all local children.

"The level of investment underlines our commitment to make North Lanarkshire THE best place to Live, Learn, Work, Invest and Visit".

Matt Costello, Community Partnership Manager from North Lanarkshire Council said: "This is an excellent example of communities engaging and working together with the council to develop a much needed community resource which will be enjoyed by local children and young people for years to come.'

To celebrate the opening, a day of sport and recreation activities was held with all pupils from both schools attending. The schools are also running a joint competition with pupils to design a new sign for the facility with the winner due to be selected later this month.
