Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan launch

Building a bright future for the local economy is the objective of our new pdf icon Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan [3Mb].

It aims to co-ordinate the physical and economic regeneration of North Lanarkshire, increase economic output and help address social and economic inequality.

The plan sets out a range of recommendations to deliver new housing, create sustainable town centres, increase business growth and employment, and develop the local transport and infrastructure networks. The plan will be funded through the council's capital budget.

"North Lanarkshire has one of Scotland's fastest growing economies with huge potential for future growth, so it's vital for our future that we maximise the opportunities that offers," said Councillor Allan Graham, Convener of the Enterprise and Growth Committee.

"The Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan brings together all the factors that influence the development of the local economy and outlines a clear, integrated approach to delivering new housing, business and employment opportunities.

"It is supported through investment in digital connections and training and skills for the future workforce.

"In drawing up this plan we have listened to the needs and aspirations of residents, businesses, elected members, community organisations and partners. One key outcome for the plan is making stronger links between schools and industry to improve career prospects for young people and meet the needs of business.

"The Delivery Plan is in line with the ambitious overall objectives of The Plan for North Lanarkshire, and will contribute to making the area the place to live, learn, work, invest and visit."
