Residents in Thorniewood are being reminded to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of the council by-election next month.

A by-election will be held in the council ward on Thursday 19 September, following the resignation of Councillor Hugh Gaffney.

To be able to vote in this by-election, eligible residents must be registered to vote by 12 midnight on Tuesday 3 September.

Registration only takes a few minutes online - you only need your National Insurance number and date of birth.

When you're registered, you can vote either in person at a polling station or by post or proxy. To arrange for a postal or proxy vote, go to the Your Vote Matters web site.

Applications for new postal votes, postal proxy votes and amendments to, or cancellation of, existing postal or existing proxy votes must be with the Electoral Registration Office by 5.00pm on Wednesday 4 September, and applications for new proxy votes by 5.00pm on Wednesday 11 September.
