St Edward's and Tollbrae primary pupils celebrate the first day in their new schools

Fantastic new shared campus opens in Airdrie

St Edward's & Tollbrae primaries first day

Pupils and staff at St Edward's and Tollbrae primaries enjoyed the start of the school term in brand new surroundings today (Thursday 15 August).

The new campus has been built on the playing fields of the existing schools. And the old schools will soon be demolished, with car parking to be constructed where Tollbrae currently stands and a floodlit synthetic pitch laid on the existing St Edward's site.

The £17.9 million joint campus building has two classroom wings connected by a shared gym, along with a dining hall and multi-purpose rooms to accommodate the combined 342 and 217 pupils.

Siobhan Egan, Head Teacher of St Edward's Primary and Nursery, said: "The new building looks fantastic and will be a wonderful new place for our pupils to thrive and we look forward to working alongside our Tollbrae colleagues on joint-campus activities and fun events.

Clare Welsh, Head Teacher of Tollbrae Primary and Nursery, added: "It's an incredible new building and will benefit the entire community. It's such an exciting moment and it's up to us as two schools that we work in partnership to make the most of the tremendous opportunities we now have.

The building has 20 classrooms set over two floors. It also has two nurseries, providing a total of 85 nursery places.
